Instrument Description

The Luminex® 100/200 System is a flexible analyzer based on the principles of flow cytometry that enables you to multiplex (simultaneously measure) up to 100 analytes in a single microplate well, using very small samples. The system delivers fast and cost-effective bioassay results on many assay formats including nucleic acid assays, receptor-ligand assays, immunoassays, and enzymatic assays.

The Luminex 100/200 System is the combination of three core xMAP® Technologies. The first is xMAP microspheres, a family of fluorescently dyed micron-sized polystyrene microspheres that act as both the identifier and the solid surface to build the assay. The second is a flow cytometry-based instrument, the Luminex 100/200 analyzer, which integrates key xMAP detection components, such as lasers, optics, fluidics, and high-speed digital signal processors. The third component is the xPONENT® Software, which is designed for protocol-based data acquisition with robust data regression analysis.

More Description

The Luminex 200 Instrument System sets the standard for multiplexing, providing the ability to perform up to 100 different tests in a single reaction volume on a flow cytometry-based platform. The Luminex 200 system is compatible with Procarta Plex multiplex immunoassays and Quanti Gene Plex multiplex gene expression assays.

Features of the Luminex MAGPIX system include:
• Multiplexing: up to 80 analytes per sample using magnetic microspheres
• Dynamic range (typical): ≥ 3.5 logs
• Read time: 96-well plate in ≤ 45 min (up to 12,800 tests/hour)
• Daily start-up/shutdown: ≤ 30 min

Luminex xMAP technology
The open architecture of Luminex xMAP technology uses imaging, microspheres, digital signal processing, and traditional chemistry—combining proven technologies in a unique way.

Advantages of Luminex xMAP technology include:
• Helps reduce costs and labor through multiplexing
• Smaller sample size requirements compared to single result assays
• Enables fast, reproducible results from favorable kinetics of liquid bead array approach
• Broad coverage of applications, including protein expression and gene expression profiling

How Luminex xMAP technology works
Sets of magnetic microspheres are color-coded with combinations of red and infrared fluorophores. Each bead set is coated with a reagent specific to a particular bioassay, allowing the capture and detection of several specific analytes from a single sample. Optics in the compact analyzer excite the internal dyes that identify each microsphere as well as any reporter dye captured, providing quantitation of individual analytes on each microsphere. The analyzer reads many beads from each set, enabling rapid and precise results for several targets within a single sample.
