The McIlwain Tissue Chopper cuts living tissue in a variety of ways with a minimum of functional disturbance. These preparations can be used in studies of metabolism or for electrophysiology. The McIlwain Tissue Chopper may also be used to cube fixed tissue for araldite embedding and EM. Include the Speed Control, Slice Thickness, Blade Force, and Table Release. The McIlwain Mechanical Tissue Chopper does not destroy the fine structure of cell materials. This device is designed to cut fresh or fixed tissue for metabolic experiments. It is especially advantageous for slicing small or irregular shaped specimens as one might obtain from biopsies. The Mcillwain Tissue Chopper causes much less disturbance of the cell structure than homogenizers or blenders and has been used on various tissues of the central nervous system as well as for liver and kidney.
